JoyceDeWitt began appearing on stage at 13 years old. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. In her summer production she was enticed by director John Toth to join UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said she never met the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her character Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 season of sitcom Three's Company, a job she obtained after being cast in the second pilot episode of the show. Janet also appeared in an episode of the show The Ropers in the year 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to appear in the finale of Three's Company's 1984 season. She then appeared in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Then she ceased acting for several years. Acting was her first return on stage in the month of June in 1991 when she was a performer in an episode of the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured the character an adaptation of her voice voice that was voiced by a different actress in 1997. She appeared in an episode of Cybill and made an appearance in the penultimate episode of Living Single. She's been on shows on TV such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
